Supermarine Spitfires and a Hawker Hurricane take to the sky again…..in August 2012 the Flying Heritage Collection commemorated the 1940 Battle of Britain where the outnumbered RAF fought off the German Luftwaffe and saved Britain from imminent invasion. The Spitfire Mk.Vc and Hurricane Mk.XIIA of the Flying Heritage Collection were joined by the nearby Historic Flight Foundation’s Spitfire Mk.IXe.

Unlike the Luftwaffe Flying Day a few weeks prior, these classic British fighters all took to the air without any issues. They then put on a fantastic flight display which was also a first for me seeing a Hurricane fly with not one but two Spitfires! It was great to hear the roar of three Rolls Royce Merlin engines in the sky.

“Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.“
Winston Churchill – British Prime Minister, August 20th, 1940.
