“Miss America” 2012

Miss America” is a North American P-51D-30NA Mustang manufactured in Inglewood, California in 1944. She served with the USAAF and Air National Guard until 1958 (sold as surplus for just $3,700!) and was subsequently modified for air racing in the 1960’s. I got to see her fly at the Reno Air Races in 2012. A great event and a beautiful looking aircraft!

With a racing speed of 703 kmh /437 mph “Miss America” can really move but it was not enough to win the air races in 2012. There was another Miss America that did win that year though…
