Georgia Veterans State Park

The Georgia Veterans State Park can be found  on U.S. 280 at Cordele not far off the I75 that runs through southern Georgia. This park has plenty of outdoor activities to partake in, but also has a small military museum and an excellent outdoor display of military aircraft, tanks and weaponry that cover a period from World War Two to the Vietnam War.

The centerpiece of the air park is a Boeing B-29A Superfortress. This one is the only surviving example of a B-29A that was converted to the F13-A photo reconnaissance model. The aircraft was delivered in 1944 and flew with the USAAF out of Guam in 1945.

The military vehicles and equipment on display are well restored. They include tanks, armoured vehicles and artillery pieces.

A huge downpour hit during my visit so I only got to explore the museum and air park but luckily that was my main purpose of being there! It is well worth a detour off the interstate if you are heading to or from Atlanta to go check out this unique collection of military hardware.

  1. Nice! The aircraft are in better condition than I hoped for. The Stuart tank is a bonus, as well. Good to know the B-29 was converted to an F-13 (I had no idea an F-13 existed). It’s like I don’t have to go there now…but I will 😉
