Utah Cobra

The Bell AH-1 Cobra or HueyCobra helicopter gunship cut its teeth during the Vietnam War and served the US Army proudly from 1967 to 1999 (they also saw front line operation during combat in Grenada 1983, Panama 1989, The Gulf War in Iraq 1990-1991, Operation Restore Hope in Somalia in 1993 and Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti in 1994). Driving through Vernal in eastern Utah recently I came across this fine memorial of an AH-1F model.

The AH-1F was the last production model and featured modernised equipment such as a three-barreled M197 20 mm cannon, TOW anti-tank missiles (up to 8 on the wing pylons), Heads Up Display (HUD), M136 Helmet Sight Subsystem (HSS), laser rangefinder and tracker, infrared jamming devices, an infrared suppressing engine exhaust system and the M143 Air Data Subsystem (ADS). This particular example was in fantastic condition and a great tribute the crews that flew and maintained her in the US Army.
