Chuck Aaron: Red Bull Helicopter was a feature display at the 2015 Yuma Airshow. The Red Bull Helicopter is a modified Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm Bo 105 that is fitted with special fuel lines and it has most definitely had anything that weighs a lot and isn’t necessary removed so Chuck Aaron can perform rolls, backflips and various aerobatics unlike your average helicopter (i.e. he goes upside down a lot!). The Bo 105 is a maneuverable chopper as it is but this one certainly has some extra zip!
Chuck Aaron, a test pilot, was the first person to be licenced to perform helicopter aerobatics in the United States and his skills are impressive to say the least! He partnered with Red Bull in 2004 to improve the Bo 105 and the helicopter made its aerobatic debut in the United States in 2006. 20,000 plus flying hours and he keeps on going strong!
In 2011 Chuck was inducted into the Society of Experimental Test Pilots (SETP). This is a prestigious international organization that contributes to the advancement of aeronautical technology through aeronautical design, pilot development and air safety. Chuck states on the Red Bull Air Force website: “This honour is like getting my Ph.D in piloting and aviation.”
If you want to see a helicopter flown like a stunt aerobatic aeroplane then Chuck Aaron and the Redbull Helicopter are right for you (Redbull has 4 aerobatic Bo 105’s with 2 in Europe and 2 in the United States). Don’t miss it!
