There was quite a variety of static aircraft on display at the Joint Base Lewis McChord – JBLM Airshow & Warrior Expo 2016 (August 27th-28th, 2016 – I went on the Saturday). Non flying aircraft and helicopters were present from the USAF, US Army (more on them in my next post), Royal Canadian Air Force and Civil Air Patrol including combat aircraft, trainers, transports and aerial refuelling tankers. There was something for everyone but as per usual with modern budgetary constraints there could always have been more fighters and bombers!
There were also various warbirds and historic aircraft at the other end of the airfield. Technically they were not static displays as a number of them flew during the day and were separated from the crowd by a security fence but you could still get a reasonable look at them!
All in all and enjoyable day wandering around exploring all of these aircraft up close. In my next post I will share some photos of the US Army helicopters, vehicles and equipment that was part of the Warrior Expo.
They sure are! I wish this one had flown. By coincidence I just happened to be wearing a trucker cap from their base in South Dakota that I visited in 2013. It opened up some interesting dialog in chatting with the pilots who noticed it straight away. They said they would love to have flown a display but there was more “bang for your buck” showing people the bomber on the ground apparently. They did do some low level flying as a training run from SD to WA though!
A great line up. It’s nice you can get so close to them.

Yes you could go inside or inspect most aircraft. I was happy to finally get inside the B-1 – so cramped I there!

I’ve only ever seen one fly once. It was very impressive in the sky!

Well I guess it does give the opportunity to see inside and talk to those who fly them, both rate and interesting opportunities.
