The military flying on the Saturday of the Joint Base Lewis McChord – JBLM Airshow & Warrior Expo 2016 (August 27th-28th, 2016) was disrupted a bit by strong winds. Despite this the show went on and although their were some big gaps between the flying displays, there was plenty to see in the air and on the ground with military aircraft from the USAF, US Navy and US Army being the main participants of the show.
The modern military aircraft had a mix of transport, fighter jet and helicopter flying displays. JBLM is the home base for the USAF 62nd Airlift Wing and their Boeing C-17 Globemaster III transports. As such the C-17’s conducted handling, short take-off and tactical supply drop demo’s (more on the supply drop in an upcoming post). The other military flyers included the always impressive US Navy West Coast TAC DEMO team Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornet display (Strike Fighter Squadron VFA-122 “Flying Eagles” based at NAS Lenmoore, California) and a US Army Boeing CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter also took part (it could not do its tactical drop demo due to the high winds).

USAF Thunderbirds
The big finale was performed by the mighty USAF Thunderbirds flying their spectacular six ship formations aboard the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon! These guys never fail to disappoint and put on a great crowd pleaser of a show.

These photos were some of the modern military highlights of the day. I will soon post more photos of the USAF Thunderbirds and the warbirds that flew too!
Fabulous photos! I love the vapour!

Thanks. It certainly makes an impact. Apparently on the Sunday it was more humid and an entire vapour cloud formed around the tail of the Super Hornet during parts of the display!
