Joint Base Lewis McChord is home to the USAF 62nd Airlift Wing flying Boeing C-17 Globemaster III transports. On the Saturday of the JBLM Airshow & Warrior Expo 2016 (August 27th-28th, 2016) one of the C-17’s conducted a tactical supply drop demo. This came off pretty well considering how windy it was on the day and the supplies pretty much hit their mark on the ground too. It was cool to watch the parachute release from the big C-17 then track the supply pallets drifting down (the cargo was just water for the demo). A great effort considering the conditions and highlighted the skills of the pilots and the Loadmaster in the back of the C-17!

It’s nice to see these aircraft performing their duties. Flybys and displays are great, but actual displays like this show them off well. This used to happen quite frequently but seems to have stopped. Mind you, there haven’t been many transport a/c (here anyway) at airshows recently.

Yes the role of transports can be a bit under appreciated at air shows!

Even if one considers that, logistics can win a war.

Correct and most important – need food, fuel, ammunition, supplies, spare parts, vehicles, tents etc.
