There were a number of Australian Defence Force helicopters on static display at Wings Over Illawarra 2017. These included from nearby HMAS Albatross (Naval Air Station Nowra) a Royal Australian Navy (RAN) 723 Squadron Bell 429 utility and training helicopter (3 have been in service since April 2012), a 816 Squadron Sikorsky S-70B-2 Seahawk all-weather, day/night operations, anti-submarine warfare helicopter (16 delivered between 1988 and 1989 to be replaced by the Sikorsky MH-60R “Romeo” Seahawk) and an 808 Squadron Eurocopter (Australian Aerospace) MRH-90 Taipan Multi-Role Helicopter (6 are used by the RAN from a pool of 46 shared with the Australian Army – the first entered in 2007).
The navy helicopters were joined by an Australian Army Aviation Sikorsky S-70A-9 Blackhawk helicopter from the 6th Aviation Regiment based in Holsworthy, NSW. 34 Blackhawks are currently in service (the first were delivered in 1988).
